Meet the team

Valerie

I enjoyed teaching in mainstream schools but I mostly love engaging more disaffected children in learning and being part of their success, both in school and out in the community or at home.

After many years as a senior leader in special schools, I decided to focus on reducing the barriers that prevent children from learning and enjoying their school life, either because their needs are not met at school, or because they are fully out of education.

I like painting, playing the piano, sports (I play tennis), outdoors activities. I love spending time with Marley and getting to know new people.

From the age of 3 months, I have been going to school and making friends with little humans. I was always the winner at every race in the playground and learnt to play football. People are surprised when they see that I wear a football shirt and I play with my paws!

The little humans taught me lots of tricks as well! I can jump through hoops and over bars, I can sit up and cross my front paws and I am very good at waiting for my turn in games, even when there are treats involved. I help the little humans use the right tone of voice and give eye contact when they speak. They say that I give them confidence and it makes me feel really good. Some little humans even read me stories when they refuse to read aloud to adult humans.

I may be 8 years old now, but I still like long walks! and I walk very well on the lead! I sit down on the pavement and make sure that I get the signal that it is safe to go before crossing the road. I love a good cuddle and a lot of attention.
